New Member Program

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

Beta Kappa’s New Member Period
After Recruitment, women who have been extended a bid to Kappa will go through an 8-week long new member period. This consists of a retreat, receiving a Big Sister, weekly chapter meetings, new member meetings and Inspiration Period.

We use this time to help each new member adapt to sorority life and understand what it means to be a Kappa Kappa Gamma member at Beta Kappa at the University of Idaho. We want our new members to feel ready for the commitment they are making before Initiation.

Big Sisters
All new members will be matched up with a big sister. A big sister is someone that is a mentor, a friend, and a resource to the new member. She helps with the transition into college life as well as living in a sorority. Having a big sister is as rewarding as being a big sister, which is something that all older members get to do.

Inspiration Period
After all new members successfully complete the 8-week new member program; they then get initiated into the sorority. Inspiration period is a special week where the members get to learn all the reasons Kappa Kappa Gamma is such a unique organization and get to become part of the sisterhood.
